This Member Spotlight is about our little morning warrior Lan. She trains six days a week mixing it up with Muay Thai and Strength. She takes the 7am Muay Thai classes and does personal training with Tyler and Daniel for strength with a focus on power lifting. She’s made some pretty impressive progress in her time at F5 and is proof that consistency, plus a positive attitude get results. I can’t wait to see this girl keep getting faster and stronger in 2015! 🙂
I also loved reading her answers because I didn’t know how witty she was. I am sadly not a morning person, so don’t see much of Lan, but I do enjoy her Chemistry lessons on the white board she leaves showing us things like how chocolate and caffeine are similar in structure. (That means they are good to eat together, right? 😉
Enjoy! – Roxy
How long have you been training?
I’ve been training since April of 2014.
Where are you from?
I was born in Saigon, Vietnam but I grew up in the mean streets of La Puente, California.
I’m a Chemistry PhD candidate at USC. I make protein/peptide therapeutics and diagnostics for various diseases. Basically I science alot.
Why did you start training at F5?
I’ve always wanted to learn how to take a punch and give a punch so I thought muay thai would help me with that. Also, a nice F5 rep named Emily Griffen roped me into joining the gym. I couldn’t say no to a free T-shirt.
What goals have you accomplished?
In terms of muay thai, one of my goals was to start sparring. Since, I’ve started sparring my goals now are to not get punched in the face and to be able to hit Daniel (He’s too fast to be human).
In terms of my weightlifting goals, I’ve been able to deadlift and squat a Daniel then a Tyler so I’m pretty happy with that. (Editor’s note: Tyler weighs 190 lbs, so that is an incredible accomplishment, Miss Lai!)
What keeps you coming back?
This is the most fit I’ve ever been in my life so I need to keep coming back! Or else, I will not be able to flip my mattress by myself anymore.
